Training hard now = Prepared later

How you train is equal to how you will respond in a real situation. Self-defense is about surviving and nothing else. It is not about “fighting fair, clean or being honorable” like you were told while you were growing up. That was for the school playground. It is about doing what you have to do so you get to go home. If that means attacking soft targets like the eyes, throat, groin then that is what you do.You don’t know how a “Zombie” as I like to call them, is going to react when you fight back, he could run or become enraged so make sure you mean it when you attack.

You have the right to protect yourself  when your life is in jeopardy.  Nothing should  hold you back in giving 100% in your attack. The importance of training realistically could mean the difference between life and death.

I like to do what I call “Game” my situation all the time, by that I mean play out scenarios in my mind as I’m walking around in public. Say- If that guy was to turn and attack me as I pass by how could he attack and how could I respond. The movie Sherlock Holmes has a few great examples of this. Then when I train at home I try to practice those scenarios against the weight bag.

Training with a partner if you have or can find one can make all this even easier. Just remember not to hurt each other but make it as real as possible. Don’t just give as you try a technique on each other, resist a little so you can get the feel for what it will take to do it correctly.
